DIVISION 1 WALK ON BASKETBALL PLAYER
•Could have played D2/D3, badly wanted D1.
•Made the team my freshman year. •XXL jersey because they didn’t have any more sizes left when I joined. •4 minutes a year, for 4 years. •No winter break, 5a conditioning, 4 hour practices, so many chicken patties in the cafe after. •6 points in 4 years 2-3 from 3pt in the same game, if you do the percentage my shooting percentage is iconic. 😂
•My dad played at the same school and scored 1,600+ points, drafted by the Lakers and played overseas. Basically I was 1595 points away from beating him. Facts. •Slept on a cot on road trips when we needed to “triple up.” •Straightened hair before games so I could meet my friends after the game quicker (didn’t play, didn’t sweat, no post game shower).
•Kicked out of practice for not setting a proper pick on a 6’5 center. •Candy under my seat on the bench (occasionally, don’t recommend+don’t tell my coach).
•Would watch opposing teams point guards moves in film just so I could mimic them well in pre game shoot around. •Don’t let a walk on beat you.”-was occasionally heard and fueled me ALL THE WAY UP. •Quit the team for 4 weeks my sophomore year cause it was so overwhelming. Reset. Rejoined. So happy I did. •Learned so much about time management, hustle, balance + life.
•Worked my ass off every day to make those around me better. •Stepped on that court day 1 my freshman year with the goal to earn scholarship by the time I graduated. Facing significant financial hardship, it was a huge driving force. •Received a year and half of full scholarship, a jersey that fit + a hell of a lot of respect my senior year.
Why do I share? Because I think it’s important to learn what some of us have done, continue to do and will do. We often get this false notion of reality on this platform, that someone just came from something or was born with good genetics or just had all this life sh*t figured out without setbacks, growth and hard work. It’s so important to tear down layers and expose some of your why, your background, your history. In doing so, it allows everything around you, including yourself, the ability to grow. This is my story. 💪

Maybe if you spent less time pandering to those losers behind the barricades, you may be able to save yourself.

Dont embrace my joys if you cant embrace my sorrows.
I remember turning 30 for the first time once having a kid & this chick who used to let me hit on occasion lol & ended up spending the night alone on my couch.
Not that it was my “choice” just wasn’t special enough for even a HUG on my bornday.
All I thought about was DAMN all the work Ive put in & STILL dont have peace of pussy mind? Or place to call my own? Or companion here w/ me in this moment? And all I wanted to prove was that I am actually worth somethin. All I thought about is to what extent is irrational behavior gonna continue until I decide to throw it all away.
Be CAREFUL! The people you TAKE for GRANTED!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤They could be the Mayor of your city or your Manager tomorrow💯💯💯
